The best apps to manage your receipts

You may not necessarily have to keep track of your receipts, but you may like to. Holding onto receipts can be frustrating because they often get misplaced or lost. Thankfully there are now apps that allow you to keep track of those receipts through the use of your smart phone. Here are six apps that will help you scan, track, and manage your receipts.

#1. Expensify

Free to use, Expensify allows you to take photos of receipts, import your credit card information, and create mileage reports. To submit these reports, all you have to do is enter the receipt’s email address. If you are looking for an app that is convenient, then Expensify might not be the one for you. Getting the information from the receipt can sometimes take up to a few hours. This app is free, but it only allows for five receipt scans per month. If you pay for a plan, you will get unlimited scans.

#2. Zoho Expense

Zoho Expense also allows you to manage receipts and track your mileage. Unlike Expenisfy, you will get 100 free scans a month with Zoho. Its scanning is also much faster than Expensify. You have access to the free scans, but you can also pay for a subscription if you wish.

#3. Evernote

While Evernote is generally used for note taking, it also has the ability to recognize images with text. This function provides you with a safe place to store your receipts. One different aspect of Evernote is that it only allows you to take pictures of your receipts. It will not allow you to create expense reports like the other two apps listed above. You also have the option to create a specific label for each receipt that makes it easier for you to sort through. This app is free, but you can also pay for a subscription.

#4. Google Lens/Google Photos

Google Lens allows you to take pictures of your receipts. While Google Lens is only a camera app, you can store the pictures that you take either on Google Assistant or Google Photos. If you use Google Assistant, then you can simply say “Show me my receipts” and the app will generate a list of all the receipt pictures that it has. If you use Google Photos, you can type “receipts” in the search bar and the app will gather all of the receipt photos for you.

#5. Smart Receipts

Smart Receipts is an app that allows you to take pictures of your receipts, generate reports, and generate visualization tools. You can also organize your receipts in any way you want to with the customization settings. These features may seem amazing, but the app makes you purchase OCR scans if you don’t want to enter the information manually. This app has some free options, but eventually you will have to make some in-app purchases.

#6. Receipts by Wave For Business

This app may be primarily for business expenses, but it does provide the ability to scan multiple receipts at a time. This app can also sync with the Wave website. The best parts about this app is that all functions are completely free and there is no limit on the amount of receipts you can scan in a month. One downfall is that if you want to manage your receipts after you scan them, then you will have to log onto the website.
