How to delete messages in Facebook Messenger

How many times have you wanted to delete a message in Facebook Messenger, but didn’t know how? Face it, we have all had these moments. We either are running out of room or there’s a message that we would rather erase from our memory. Luckily, there is a way to permanently delete Facebook messages. Deleting these messages either on your desktop computer or on your mobile device is easy to do and takes only seconds. However, deleting your messages does not delete the messages from your friend’s inbox.

Deleting messages on your desktop:

Step #1: Log into your Facebook account like you normally would.

Step #2: Click the chat bubble in the upper right hand corner, followed by clicking See All in Messenger in the bottom left-hand corner.

Step #3: To delete an entire message thread, you first have to hover over the conversation thread and click the symbol that looks like a gear. Hovering over that icon will display several options and that is where you will see the delete option. Hit delete.

Step #4: Once you hit the delete button, a message will pop up to make sure you want to follow through with deleting the conversation. You can either cancel, delete, or archive the conversation. Click delete to continue.

Step #5: Another option is to delete only part of a conversation. To do this, click into and open the conversation. Once you are into the conversation, hover over the message you want to delete and click the three horizontal dots and hit delete.

Deleting messages on your mobile device

Step #1: If you have not downloaded the Facebook Messenger app on your smart phone, and then log in as you normally would.

Step #2: If you wish to delete an entire conversation, hold down on the conversation thread and select “delete conversation”.

Step #3: If you want to delete only part of a message, then you first start by going into the conversation. Once you are into the conversation thread, hold down the message you want to delete, and select “delete” at the bottom.

With these easy steps, you can now get rid of any embarrassing messages you wish to part with.
